The Lazy Goose, Goa
The Lazy Goose
If you asked the average fairytale reader what resides beneath picturesque bridges, trolls is one’s immediate response. The Nerul creek is set to play host to a definitive ‘trolling’ gastronomic experience, no pun intended. Partners Chef Rohan, Praveena and Hitesh have worked on this make-believe concept and brought it to the realisation of one and all that perhaps in their fertile minds great ideas whirled serenely like geese on the dawn mist-strewn creek.
A beautiful ambience under the bridge right by the creek, it’s a hit and miss if not carefully looked out for, canoes are ready for a quick serendipitous glide, if one should wish. Crab hunting with packed picnics is on offer for a price, with prior booking, to enhance the holistic charm of the ‘lazy laid-back’ experience. As one would enter, it's quick to notice the restaurant plays to the surrounding ambience with shades of blue and an upturned canoe overhead. Apt indeed! A double-sided menu board proclaims the fruits of culinary toil with one being ubiquitously spoilt for choice.
Start your order with a beeline to the bar and their affable mixologist. Begin with the delightful fresh fruit cocktails. The margaritas rule the roost. Cast off the jetty with the River Prawns Al Ajilo- a Spanish styled crustacean cooked in its own shell, with a marinade of wine and garlic was spooned into the orifice. A burst of flavours emitted with every morsel. Next on offer was the unique imported signature Grilled Tasmanian Scallops served in individual shells with miso honey cream, cauliflower purée and carrot foam. The miso honey cream and cauliflower purée melded perfectly, striking the right notes along the way. The presentations were artistic with crockery complimented to perfection being meticulously sourced out by the team. A recommendation would be the seafood and grill section, showcasing some of Chef Rohan’s signature dishes. For all you carnivores, the Garlic Tenderloin Steak topped with wild mushrooms, sitting on a bed of Parmesan risotto was succulent and well adhered to in manner of preparation, medium rare. Add to this, peppercorn jus and every bite is pure glee. Mind you the portions are filling, hence it’s best to pace oneself through the course of the event. Satiate your sweet tooth offerings with the Carmelised Apple Crème Brûlée- a rich crème dessert with hints of caramel crunch lacing an overtone of a roasted apple.
