RIP Jiggs Kalra

RIP Jiggs Kalra

"This engine of mine is shunting... and when it takes off, it will go like the Silver Streak," Jaspal Inder Singh Kalra fondly known as Jiggs Kalra said to UpperCrust way back in 2002. We remember the spirit of this extraordinary human who has bid adieu to the world at the age of 72.

Jiggs was a food columnist at a time when the eating-out culture was in its nascent stage. He has given the world a taste of classical Indian cuisine like no one else because scarcely anyone put their heart or soul into food the way Jiggs did. He went on to become a food festival specialist and a consultant chef and, wrote 11 books on Indian cuisine. His dream of opening restaurants was perpetuated by his son, Zorawar Kalra and we now have restaurants like Masala Library, Pa Pa Ya and Farzi Cafe, carrying on Jiggs' legacy.

Jiggs Kalra always considered Busybee his guide and mentor. Busybee wrote a wonderful piece on him which we share here from our archives for you to read. Check out below what Busybee thought of him.
