20 Good Indian and International Wines

20 Inexpensive Wines

Indian and International

India has come a long way in its wine story and on so many fronts. We now have wine clubs, regular wine dinners, festivals, awards, competitions, weekly tastings of wines from all over the world and yes unfortunately even a growing number of wine ‘elite’. People can be seen in restaurants and bars across cities sipping on a glass of wine. They are curious about food and wine pairing. Restaurants and hotels take wine a lot more seriously, not just in terms of what they offer, but how they serve it too. You can see an overhaul in wine retail in some pockets of the big cities as well

The quality of Indian wine over the years has improved greatly with a number of producers having a few stunners in their portfolio. While wineries have come and gone, the handful that do look at quality have stuck around. They are experimenting with different wine styles and new grape varietals giving us a whole spectrum of flavours to choose from. Indian wine isn’t limited to Indian shores either; leading wineries sell their wines to over 25 countries and are served at top restaurants across the globe.
We have a good selection of imported wines available to us, the number of options perhaps was previously higher but nevertheless there is plenty of choice. It is still very expensive to drink imported wine in India, no thanks to varying degrees of taxation, but we see a steady growth in consumption especially for wines that are sold between the range of Rs 2000 and Rs2500 and of course lower.
A luxury wine store that has been doing a commendable job at housing the finest collection in India is La Cave, located in Delhi, Bombay and Bangalore. There are some real gems of wines out there waiting to be discovered, that may eventually push prices upwards, so it is best we take a look at them now.
