Potato Chops

Ingredients

When in doubt make potato chops! Simple, easy and had as is or inside a gutli pav (crusty bread) with some onions and ketchup or rolled into a chappati. This dish is similar to many around the world and a mainstay dish at least once a week at home.

• 1/2 tsp salt

• 1/4 tsp sugar

• 1 kg potatoes

• egg as needed             

• breadcrumbs

• oil for shallow frying

For the filling

• 1 onion

• 250 g beef/lamb mince

• 2 green chillies

• 4 garlic flakes 

• 1/2" pc ginger

• 1/4 bunch coriander

• 1/2 tsp jeera powder

• 1 tsp bottle masala

• 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

• 1/2 tsp mustard powder

• 1 tbsp vinegar

• 1 tsp sugar

• 1 tbsp tomato puree

• salt & pepper to taste

 

Method

For the filling

Chop the onion fine In a heated pan. Add oil and sauté onions, then add spices and herbs, and rest of the ingredients. Add the mince and cook for 5 minutes until the meat is cooked.

 

Boil the potatoes separately and mash them well; add a little salt and sugar.

 

Take some potato and roll into a ball.

Make a cavity in the centre and put in a spoonful of filling.

Shape into patties or cakes.

Dip the cakes in egg wash and breadcrumbs.

Shallow-fry the cakes golden brown, 2 minutes on each side.
