Catching up at the newest brewpub may still be a common pastime, but stepping out for a cortado and cruffin in the morning is now one of the coolest things to do in Bangalore.

Araku Coffee on 12th Main, Indiranagar, is one of the most popular spots for breakfast in town. The space is clean and white and stylish, like a photo from a Scandinavian interior décor magazine. And you can pick up an expensive moka pot from the displays, if you wish.

Among the freshly brewed coffees is the Araku Micro Climate made from medium-roast beans with notes of strawberry, grape, cocoa and olive. It’s also fresh and strong and guaranteed to wake you up.

There’s a new line-up of breakfast dishes at this café and one of the star dishes is the Oyster Omelette. This isn’t quite the fluffy-crisp Singapore hawker-market item. The Araku version is an omelette topped with bits of fried oyster. The omelette is perfectly fine and is served with nice sourdough on the side. Or, you could try the Scrambled Toastie, the perfectly done eggs topped with a slice of meaty grilled mushroom.

The chef, Rahul Sharma, is deeply committed, sourcing local, seasonal ingredients. The White Butter Croissant,  for instance, is made with cultured butter produced in-house. It lives up to its reputation as does the chocolate-filled one. The real indulgence on the new menu is the Damask Rose, a tart with a rose-infused custard filling and a topping of petals arranged so beautifully, it begs to be photographed.

Araku is a good spot to spend a pleasant morning, drinking some fine coffee and indulging in carefully crafted breakfast dishes.
