This UK-import is for a casual affair, a business meeting, a date, a family outing, a lazy brunch on the weekend – Saturdays, to be precise – in a vast naturally well-lit space with live entertainment and a scenic terrace to dine in. Classics take on a modern twist at Bread Street Kitchen, brought forth by none other than Hell’s Kitchen’s very own, Chef Gordon Ramsay. Doesn’t get more English than that! Throw in an ice-cream bar and you’re all set.

Normally, you would start with the small plates but if you could only go to BSK for a quick bite, and sweet-toothed is the way you roll – like we do – then do relish the Chocolate Fondant with an ice-cream that’s made from bread-and-butter pudding. We can’t guarantee it would be quick, though, for you would want to savour each spoonful. There’s another dish that the chefs get just right, for you can easily go wrong with a salmon that’s cured in beets. Light and flavourful, this is for the beet lover, finished with a dressing of the same, spruced up with horseradish cream and chopped shallots. For the vegetarian beetroot eater, the Burrata comes with black olives, dill and pine nuts, and of course, beet that is naturally grown, of the heritage variety. Fresh as ever! Beef diners could expect a potted brisket with pickled mustard relish, whole grain mustard and seeded crackers to go with. Sides like the mac-n-cheese could become a mini meal-in-one, really, speckled with garlic crumbs that change the perception of this classic that is not American in origin, mind!

If you choose to walk down Bread Street on a Sunday, a whole roast with all the trimmings awaits you and tempts you, dear diner. Pick your poison – on whichever day, at whatever time you so desire – and relax. The Espresso Martini, we’re told packs in quite a punch. We were content with our cappuccino sans the spirits, presented with love in latte art we always admire and applaud.
