Panchgani (with Mahabaleshwar and Wai) Silver Oaks & Muddy Slopes

Panchgani in the Sahayadri Hills, is 250 km from Bombay. At 4,300 feet above sea level, its climate is pleasant at any time of the year. Full of beautiful flowers and ancient trees, it is the Silver Oak which is characteristic of this hill-station.

From Bombay, you take the fabulous Pune Expressway and viola you are there in four to four-and-a-half hours! Its a simple route. When you turn off the Expressway, you automatically get onto the Pune Bypass which takes exactly half hour to clear. A right turn at the end finds you on the road to Satara. Its one straight road from there, 40 minutes of normal driving leads you into Wai, with prosperous looking farmlands. From here it is 20 minutes up the Parsani Ghat to Panchgani.

There is another way of driving to Panchgani. Its via Mahad, on the road to Goa. No Expressway here for you. You get on to Highway No. 17 at Panvel, go past many small villages, reach the Mahad Ghat at Poladpur and drive up the 39 km ghat and reach Mahabaleshwar. From where Panchgani is again just a 20 minute drive away.
