What an accolade to R.K. Laxman!
On reading Not a Common Man - R.K. Laxman I instantly picked up my pen to send you a few thoughts. What a wonderful cover and biography UpperCrust has done! What a tribute you have paid this unique individual who brightens our mornings with his wit.
My eyes inevitably gravitate to the Laxman cartoon in the Times of India every morning and I start my day with a smile. I miss him in Belgaum as the Times does not reach us there on a daily basis, but we do have a caricature of Nicky, done by Laxman many years ago, and that is our reminder of him when my husband and I are on Ashanand Farm. Your article aptly captures the essence of Laxman and Kamala, revealing them to be a wise and down-to-earth curd-rice couple despite the international honours and recognition. It makes one wonder whether his staple food may not be healthier and more inspiring for us than the exotic meals that tempt us! Thanks to the UpperCrust articles, I had a long chat over the phone with Kamala recently and we have promised to meet soon.
God bless, Farzana - we look forward to many more UpperCrusts,

UpperCrust is thrilling!
Read your piece (a loving chat more like it) on R.K Laxman. Wow! Its so warm and wonderful. I wont make this an epistle, but I just had to tell the editor what I felt. I hope UpperCrust goes from strength to strength and gets even more subscribers and readers. Its not a magazine, its an experience. Its just so delightful; the vicarious thrill that one gets from reading it.

Your high tea brings fond memories!
Ooh la la!! One read of the special feature on Afternoon Tea in London in UpperCrust and for me it felt like dj vu. Hello! Is this not familiar ground? I asked myself.
Being an ardent tea time fan, it brought back nostalgic memories of several afternoon teas, had in favourite company at Hanbury Manor Ware, U.K. years ago. It was just chatting, chatting and chatting over several cups of the simply intoxicating brew they call tea with the mouth-watering accompaniments glamorously presented on the three-tiered china stand, holding sinful treats. It had to be sandwiches, pastries, scones with creams and preserves et al. Somewhere this high tea experience had all slipped into the unconscious mind till UpperCrust brought back vivid memories to the fore. The next visit to London is surely going to see me make a beeline to experience the age-old favourite mealtime at the Savoy or Ritz as Hambury Manor has discontinued this luxury.
This volume has also brought out R.K.Laxman and his success story with great lan. Trust UpperCrust to maintain such high undisputed standards. The Land of Jesus Christ vividly covered by Farzana Contractor was another treat for the heart, mind and soul. Jerusalem is a place, I have longed to visit but have been so far unable to do so.
UpperCrust is simply getting more and more addictive as I browse through copy after copy. It is one of the best or should I say the best magazine I have come across till date.

Magnificent feature on NZ!
Congratulations on a fine fourth quarter issue, and some excellent coverage of the scenic wonders of New Zealands South Island. It brought back any happy memories of my own holiday in Queenstown last year. Your photos do justice to the fine scenery and recreational activities, as well as the fabulous wining and dining.
I was pleased to read that Farzana Contractor chose to drive herself for much of the holiday, even if she did avoid the jet boat ride and the bungy jump! We find that many Indian travellers enjoy the independence that comes with self driving, and the convenient rental car or camper van facilities at New Zealand airports. Add to that the familiarity of being able to drive on the left and to use an Indian drivers license, plus the unfamiliar joy of having the road to ones self for much of the time, and its easy to see why self-drive appeals so much. Another factor is that many of our visitors from India are on honeymoon, and enjoy the chance to be on their own as a couple in their car. And we know from Kaho na Pyaar Hai, those mountain lake views are VERY romantic.
Wishing you and your readers more good dining and travelling

Thank-you from us in Israel
I was really very impressed by the recent edition of UpperCrust, with several articles about Israel and Farzana Contractors visit to my country. The articles and the photos were outstanding by any standards and she deserves a huge thank you from all of us in Israel and our consulate in Bombay.
When I am next in Bombay, I shall come personally to meet the UpperCrust team at your office.

Israel came alive in your pages!
Both Liora and I wish to congratulate you for the wonderful issue on Israel in the UpperCrust of the first quarter 2007 and express our sincere thanks for the same. Each and every aspect of the country has been brought out so beautifully by you, and the best of each and every city has come alive. The culinary aspect of the country has been portrayed in an excellent manner and your unquestionable expertise in the field is clearly shown in this issue. To put it in a nutshell, it is a publication of superb quality with excellent pictures and text.
With warmest regards and best wishes.

Our birthday at Salt Water Grill
Hey, great review by Anil Dharker on Salt Water Grill. I live at Colaba and must have passed by it on the Marine Drive a thousand times. I did see the restaurant sign but never stopped there for a meal. However, on reading the review of the place in your last issue we simply had to get the al fresco experience for ourselves. So on the 21st of May which is the day my husband and I share a birthday, we took our kids to eat there. And what a fabulous time it was! From the willowing tents, candle light, the delicious food, everything added to one of the best eating out experiences we have ever had! Had I not read the UpperCrust, I would never have known that we have such a gourmet jewel in our midst.

What a pickle!
I must say that the feature on Nainis pickles was terrific. I didnt know one could make such a variety and so easily at home. Imagine a Dahi Raita pickle as well as a Mango Curry one. And the photographs were excellent, it was as though one could eat these pickles right off the pages! Keep it up, with UpperCrust you really know how to keep the readers engrossed with each issue.Just had one suggestion, can you please give us some soup recipes, now that the rains will be here soon?

Great vegetarian recipes!
A recent subscriber to your magazine, I am so impressed by it that I show it off to all my guests at home. Theres no best section as such, all the features are equally informative and so well photographed. What I especially loved about the last issue were the recipes that you featured. From the delicious home-made pickles, to the okra dishes and your garnishing article that presented excellent tips on Palak Paneer, it was all so delightful. Being a hard-core vegetarian I was so thrilled to have such a variety to try out.
One suggestion, please have more vegetarian recipes in your future isssues.
