Of Red Mud, Toy Trains, Horses And No Cars!

If all you have is just two days to spare, you can make it to Matheran and come away, relaxed and rested and rejuvenating.

Thats the effect of the atmosphere of this hill station perched in the Sahyadri ranges, 2,400 feet above sea level.

The forests here are deep and lovely, the walks endless, the panoramic views spectacular, the accommodation plenty- old fashioned and ultra modern. And it is just so quiet, quiet, quiet. Its not just the city which is left behind, but also the cacophony of traffic. And 100 % one will not hear even one single car horn anywhere in Matheran, cars are not allowed up here! They have to be left at Dasturi, three kms outside the main street. Thats the best part and it is the only place in Asia that has that distinction. So all you have to make do with, are horses, richshaw-pullers or your own legs.

Exercise anyone?
