Adnan Sami Has Reasons To Smile

Keep it up!
I was introduced to UpperCrust, during one of my trips to India. I am impressed with the quality of the magazine and have ordered all the back issues too. The editor is truly multi-talented, because of all the wonderful pictures and articles that she has written. UpperCrust is a world class magazine. Keep up the
good work.

Adnan Sami was a terrific story!

I have to tell you I thoroughly enjoyed your feature on singer Adnan Sami.

I read it from start to finish at one go, all through his incredible 100-kg weight loss, the tough journey he had to undertake and his joy at his new transformation. I think it made an ideal cover story; Adnan is certainly the man in the news.

More than anything, the article was an inspiring piece. To know that one can go through a tough trial and come out a winner is so motivating. It was also quite touching to see the emotional side of the man which if Shernaaz Engineer did not touch upon, we would not know. Though I had heard about Adnan's weight loss, it was just a sketchy bit of news, your article in UpperCrust had so much more. Great work! Please keep writing such heartwarming features.

What a cover story!
Please accept my compliments on a great feature that you published on singer Adnan Sami in the last issue. My husband and I are both overweight and want to admit we had been neglecting our health over the years with a 'so what' attitude. Neither of us thought that one can lose so much weight and that diet was a waste of time. After reading the piece (and we have read it many times over), we really felt we could also make that change. I think we never cared for ourselves the way we should have and your article made us sit up and realise the importance of doing so. It was motivating to see how Adnan overcame so many odds to lose his weight. Thanks for writing such a great piece.

Matheran magic in UpperCrust!
Congratulations on your excellent coverage of Bombay's neighbouring hill-station, Matheran. Farzana Contractor's photographs were so beautiful; it brought the pages alive. Right from the deep forest paths and the adivasis, to the toy train, tourists and lovely scenery, she has captured the verdant hill-station most effectively. And the articles were so impressive. Little did we realise that we have such a bountiful vacation spot so close to home. I went there many years ago and now, during the Diwali holidays, I have decided to take my wife and children there. UpperCrust beats any travel guide or book any day. Can't wait to read your next destination!

Resting Parsis… was poignant
To partake in a serious subject and treat it as well as any other feature is something one can only expect of UpperCrust. I am referring to the beautifully written tribute to the article 'Resting Parsis of Matheran'. Farzana Contractor has indeed penned a wonderful eulogy on it. It brings a tear to the eye to see and read the cherished messages inscribed on the graves. My heartfelt compliments to you on bringing out this piece in your magazine.

Chiang Mai was terrific
I am a subscriber to UpperCrust for the past four years and this magazine is our family favourite. My wife looks forward to the recipes and cooking and loves the travel features. They are so delightful, such a personal way of going through each place.

I specially enjoyed Farzana Contractor's travelogue on Thailand in the last issue. From the Wrat Prathat Doi Suithep temple, to the elephant camp in Chiang Mai and Doi Inthanon, all the pages were so vibrant. And what about the Karen tribe?

One would not even know that such beautiful people exist, had you not brought them closer to us. The
pages are very educative indeed. Thank you and carry on the good work.

A nice change, with Jewish cooking

Hey, I would like to say that your section on 'Come Into My Kitchen' in the last issue was quite interesting. It was so refreshing to see a different cuisine this time around instead of the usual Indian dishes and spices.

'A Royal Jewish Repast' was a lovely peek into Israeli cooking and its customs. I also tried Liora Zonshine's 'Aubergine in Soya Sauce' which was a complete success much to the joy of my family. Who knew Jewish foods could be so tasty and simple to make?

Great work, please have some more new cuisines for us to read and try out.

Daiquiri diary
My friends in our social club have always recommended Daiquiri as the best drink for pre-dinner sessions. I showed them the feature on this cocktail in UpperCrust and everyone felt it was very informative and interesting, right from the recipes to the detail on the rum making process. Since I entertain a lot at home I shall definitely use Srikant Peri's delicious infusions. Thank you for the wonderful piece.

Mirchi Galli, a good discovery
What a detailed article you have written on Bombay's own spice souk - Mirchi Galli.  For a foodie like me, it was immensely delightful. I have been to several spice souks across the world and the best of them all, according to me, is the one in Deira, Dubai.  I liked your article so much it made the whole place look so colourful and enchanting. I had a suggestion, why don't you feature these spice markets in each of the destinations that you cover? I am sure that there are people like me who would love to read up on them.

Busybee's slice of history
My wife and I are ardent fans of UpperCrust. We look forward to each issue and I have to say all the articles and photographs in it are just excellent! In the last issue I particularly enjoyed Behram Contractor's piece on the old Irani restaurants of Bombay in the section Busybee Forever. Very nice!

The column brought out memories of long, winding chats on lazy afternoons, characterised  by the fragrance of freshly baked cakes, biscuits and, of course, bun-maska and hot chai. Fountain was a hot spot for us office goers on the way to Fort, I also remember Kyani's for its pastries and mutton patties. It was a great piece. Thanks to UpperCrust for pulling out such a nice magazine.

Busaba it is!
I am constantly in and out of Bombay on business and the other day I happened to pick up a copy of your magazine at my friend's place in the city. I read your review of Busaba restaurant and decided to try it out. I am glad I did so, not only because I enjoyed my meal there, but because I had only a few hours to spare in Bombay and a wrong dining decision would have been a waste of my time.

I hope that fellow travellers like me read your magazine and enjoy it the way I did.
