Sticking to our promise we waltzed straight into the quiet yet popular After Seven just fifteen minutes past the hour all set to sample some delicious dishes and soak in some of Leo D'souza's splendid setting.
It is tucked away in a quiet corner of Western Calangute. "This place is just like dining under the stars," Leo said happily. This, like many other Goan restaurants is an extension of the house. "It was called After Eight until recently, when the mint chocolate company by the same name, requested us to change it to avoid confusion." In the front yard of the amber house, where Leo resides, is the restaurant. Soothing music in the background, dimly lit tables, diners enveloped in hushed conversations and pebbled walls define the gourmet experience. The display kitchen is impressive as are the wine cellars.
There was a lot of hustle and bustle as guests kept pouring in. We engaged in conversation with the maestro himself in between all the activity. We were served a delicious camembert cheese soufflé, baked to perfection and we got down to the serious business of sampling the food. The magnificent continental menu with mouth-watering dishes lived up to all the rave reviews we had received about the cuisine there. There was everything from Dariole and Caesar's Salad, a Lobster Brandy to Caramelized Bananas.
Watching Leo take orders, serve his guests, coverse with them, handle the cash registers, we realized Leo was one of the most hard working Goans we had met. His passion manifested itself through After Seven.
