Four Young Guns...
... have pitched in to create i95, one of Goa’s most eclectic restaurants, observes UPPERCRUST
This funky new eatery with low seating, dim lighting, cane interiors, comfy couches and great continental food has been making waves in the culinary scene around Goa. The concept was started by four young guns from Bombay who decided that Goa was the place to fulfil all their desires and passions. Sunil Singh (ex Maitre d' on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner) and his fashion photographer girlfriend Tina were always enthusiastic to pool in and start a new venture. They found great partners in talented chefs from the Royal Caribbean willing to try out something new as well. Sumeira (executive chef on the cruise liner) along with boyfriend James were roped in. The happy foursome, live close by and started the place with just three months of ground work. When probed about the strange name and the story behind it, Sunil replied with a smile, "i95 refers to the document that remains with the passenger while travelling on the ship" They were happy, made money working on the ship and got to travel the world for free. It was then time to start something of their own, Sunil explained, as we sat down for a brief sampling session. "Word of mouth publicity as well as flyers and strategic marketing have enticed the who's who of Goa, Bombay and foreigners, to this place, in spite of its isolated location," The Apple Mojito was refreshing indeed. The tomato patty and the tart with some delicious tomato filling was a huge hit although the Maryland Crab Cakes were a tad dry. The shitake mushroom cappuccino was also good. The menu was eclectic and we promised to return to enjoy the experience completely once again. It's a great place to unwind with friends or family over a gourmet meal.
