A Posh Breakfast Indeed!
UPPERCRUST discovers Posh, the new talk of the town in Goa. Perfect place to go through the local papers over endless cups of coffee.

Following one's passion and living a dream is exactly what Goan hotelier Leo D'souza has done. He gave up his long, standing job at the Taj to open the popular eatery After Seven and recently launched Posh. "My wife, Veera, still works for Taj in Bombay, visiting us on weekends. I live in Goa with the children. The arrangement has worked well till now and I enjoy my life here," he exclaims with a big smile.

We made our way into the quaint little Portuguese house, which has been converted into Posh, the new breakfast and lunch joint one bright sunny morning. The pleasing hues of purple and yellow flowers, the beautiful furniture and the lovely cross-over bridge with an attached garden behind, accentuated the experience of eating there.

A renowned restoration architect  Ketak Nachnolkar was roped in to transform the place. One bedroom was converted into a bar, the second into a kitchen, the kitchen into a pantry and the coconut shed turned into the restroom. "The house belongs to my wife and we had closed it from 1983, now we recycled the wood and give it a new look. After the success of After Seven, it was risky but I decided to take up the challenge. I named it Posh, keeping in mind the theme of the place. The food revolves around the post-colonial era with strong Portuguese and European elements with some Goan undertones," he trails off.

We decided to indulge in some of Chef Leister's delectable breakfast creations. The Posh Eggs Special was appetizing alright! It was eggs benedict on a toasted bread roll, bathed in a rich buttery hollandaise sauce, dressed with sautéed onions, spinach, mushrooms and hash browns with grilled tomatoes as an accompaniment. The flower- shaped waffles with icing sugar; honey and butter, served English style were indulgent as well. The elaborate lunch menu boasted the humble Goan Poi, a traditional prawn cocktail and European-style Chicken with Apples in Blue Cheese Dressing.

We complimented the duo on their new venture and promised to return later that night for a meal at the swish After Seven.
