The Great Wall
The Great Wall
Sure, we’ve traversed the nearly 22,000 kms that comprise The Great Wall of China and we loved every moment of it. But sitting in the ambient restaurant of The Leela Mumbai with its floor-to-ceiling windows with natural light streaming in and food straight out of the Oriental heartland, it’s another adventure worth undertaking. The Great Wall is dedicated to serving Chinese cuisine with the use of the freshest ingredients and delicate favours that don’t leave your senses overpowered.
Take note of the marble lions at the entrance that usher you in to the warm interiors with wooden seating, porcelain vases and Chinese artefacts, and vistas of a waterfall and garden outside. Let the great feasting begin!
There’s a luxurious feel to the food and service at The Great Wall that bring comfort to a diner on the prowl for authentic Chinese food in the city. Wasabi Prawns are a fiery start to the meal followed by the Stir-fried Asparagus & Corn. Pork lovers must do the spare ribs barbecued in a five spice rub. Dim sums are de rigueur at a Chinese restaurant, so you have options like the Duck Spring Roll and the Cantonese staple, Har Gow. There are baskets for the Dim sum-crazed diner as well and soups like the Great Wall Sichuan Hot & Sour with/without shredded chicken if you’re looking to nourish the soul. Yes, for the main course, you are served lobster and crab, and sea bass, if your heart so desires but do try the pomfret instead, steamed and cooked in a black bean sauce. Tofu fans can treat themselves to the Mapo Tofu with Minced Chicken or just as is for the vegetarians, but for us, it’s the Kung Pao Chicken with Cashew Nut & Dried Chilli. The Singapore Rice Noodles with assorted veggies is a filling dish for one as is the Fukien Rice with Veggies, inspired from the Southern Chinese province.
Bringing up the rear at The Great Wall is the Mango Pudding Cantonese Style and the Chocolate Hazelnut Tart. But let’s not forget the Gula Melaka, the must-try sago pudding, for the uninitiated.
