It’s great 'juju' that this tequila bar popped up just above the insanely popular Elephant & Co in Kalyani Nagar. A funky staircase leads up to this beautifully lit space, with long hanging paper lanterns, a lovely green bar and an open kitchen. Shades of golden and green alternate throughout with wooden tabletops, elevated seating and a beautiful community table in the centre. Loud cries of hola from the staff and guests welcome each new entrant and the energy is contagious!

A great selection of tequilas indulges the worldwide trend of ‘sipping tequila’ starting with the Jose Cuervo Silver and working up to the Calle 23 Reposado, Don Julio 1941, Codigo Blanco and topping off at the Codigo Anejo. Mezcal varieties such as El Salto, Mexcalia, 400 Conejos and Codigo 1530 Artisanal are also on the menu. Cocktails are fresh and easy. We loved the Pickled Sour −Tequila Reposado, Pickled Gherkins, Charred Bell Pepper Cordial Fresh Grapefruit; Paloma 4.0 − Tequila Reposado, Grapefruit Cordial, Watermelon & Acids; Pin?a − Plantation White Rum; Mole − Pineapple, Ancho Pepper Liqueur, Vitamins; and the Tulum − Tequila Blanco, Ginger, Citrus, Mezcal Float. Along with these there is the Slush of the Day which is fresh fruit-based, and two selections from Limantour: Margarita Al Pastor and the Old George Sour. (Limantour: #7 of the World’s 50 Best Bars) and some fun community shots such as the Juju Bomb!

Getting down to business at Juju means guacamole. Choose from Classic or Edamame Truffle served with corn chips made in-house and spiced. A freshly-cut Watermelon Salad with Juju spice, mustard and pumpkin seeds, tajin and lime, and an assortment of dips with chips. The Corn Ribs, Baked Queso Potatoes, Salmon Tostadas, Lemon, Pepper, Garlic Prawns and Buffalo Chicken Tenders with blue cheese crema make for interesting starters. Soft Shell Tacos made of home-ground masa+ wheat flour or corn tortillas can be ordered with fillings such as braised jackfruit, umami mushroom, chargrilled cauliflower, chicken al pastor, blackened fish, slow-cooked pork shoulder and the lamb birria. End the Juju experience with a smile and some chocolate desserts.
