Despite the mushrooming of cafés near Golpark and Hindusthan Park in Calcutta, one aspect where most of them fall short is their pizzas. Generic thin-crust pizzas with an almost biscuit-like base are a dime a dozen, and one needs to hunt quite a bit if all one wants is a good pizza with a tall iced coffee.

This is why we were pleasantly surprised by Mirabelle. Cute Instagrammable interiors notwithstanding, the café is worth a visit for its stretchy soft Neapolitan-style pizzas alone. Its distinctly girly pretty pink décor is advertised right from its entrance – with a flowery arch at the gate of a south Calcutta bungalow. Inside, their 1500 sq. ft. area space with a pink telephone booth, and a wall of flowers, continues the whole Lily Bloom vibe.

The menu is mercifully Italian and European with no Chinese and Indian dishes in sight (phew!). The limited menu makes it a point to stay away from multi-cuisine clichés.

We ordered their Cinnamon Orange Cold Brew along with their Pollo Picante and Al Funghi pizzas which were textbook and left no room for complaint, but for the toppings (no pepperoni or prosciutto in sight). The Pesce Olivetti features basa fillets stuffed with olives and capers. For desserts, we thoroughly enjoyed their Trifle Mousse though their tiramisu is quite popular. Knowing that their tiramisu features no alcohol to be child-friendly, our palates felt affirmed with their sweet layered chocolatey trifle.
