Thank the pandemic for giving Delhi some of its most original brands that have been conceptualised out of the box. Baraat has come up with refreshingly different menus that make an honest attempt to showcase the food of our vast country with manifold cultures and cuisines. Many restaurants and home-delivery brands fail to get a fair representation of even one region in their menus. Visit three Indian restaurants anywhere in the world and you could be forgiven for thinking butter chicken and dal makhani are the two national dishes of India, with naans and raita bringing up the rear!

One businessman who has tried to make a difference is Vipul Kohli, who has, for some years now, managed businesses in the food and beverage space. This time, he has actually wanted to get his hands dirty, as the expression goes, and so, has opened his own commercial kitchen to deliver food to all parts of Delhi and the larger NCR. His first priority was to cater to at least one other cuisine other than the sadly overworked North Indian cuisine, and so, there are chefs who are familiar with the under-the-radar Mangalorean food as well as the cuisine of the Chettinad region. As Baraat grows, so also with the regional cuisines they offer. As it is, their packaging is all zero plastic. Our order was delivered in a strong yet lightweight cardboard box and the individual boxes were made of tin with colourfully painted exteriors.

The finest dishes to order include Meat Chawal, Goan Prawn Balchao, Amritsari Choley, Chicken Chapli Kebab, Mangalorean Fish Curry, Karela Pulao and Chicken Sukka Malvani. Butter chicken lovers (which includes most residents of Delhi) will not be disappointed.
