She wears many hats – fashion and jewellery designer, event planner and a passionate philanthropist. Here, we talk to Maheka Mirpuri, fitness enthusiast
1. What is your fitness mantra?
I am doing this for me! There’s nothing more motivating than an amazing workout. So get up, connect with yourself and sweat it out.
2. Is mental fitness as important as physical?
Mental fitness is as important. It’s always the sync between the mind, body and soul. I feel mental fitness gives precision, focus and makes your brain sharper. My yoga helps me achieve this.
3. What is your exercise routine like?
I alternate between yoga and functional training. Yoga helps me enhance my stretching and concentrate on my breathing whereas functional training takes my adrenaline higher.
4. Any particular food you can't resist even when on a diet?
I love my carbs and try to keep them to one meal a day. It makes me feel more satiated, it’s a comfort cheat for me. My favourite is a sandwich.
5. Do you meditate?
I love my meditation. I practise it in my yoga. Focusing on the third eye gives me an enlightened feeling. It helps me take on a stressful work day and keeps me focused and calm.
6. Do you have any quick fixes, any herbal remedies, tonics you turn to when low and need a boost?
Normally, when I am low I eat carbs because it’s the lack of sugar that drops the energy. A protein bar and a very hot cup of tea always does it for me.
7. How do you choose to detox after a particularly decadent night?
I will have a vegetarian lunch, more fruits and only a protein for dinner.
8. What do you do to get back in shape quickly?
Cut alcohol intake to only weekends and limit my carbs to only one meal a day. No sweets and fried food.
9. The buffed muscle look or the lean toned look?
Always the toned lean look for me. I love the way yoga elongates your spine and makes you feel taller. It’s mostly the exercises in using your own body weight that help to strengthen your core and make you feel stronger.
10. Who is the one person you think is ultra fit?
I love Jennifer Lopez. At 52, she’s a Goddess. I love her line: “As long as it’s healthy, I embrace who I am. I feel sexy, I feel youthful, I feel pretty!”
