Whats this about you not being at liberty to eat?
Yes, my husband and coach Bobby wont allow me to eat when Im in training. At the end of the season, I get one or two months to really eat!
Anything in particular?
Kerala food. But I also like North Indian cuisine, and European pastas and things like that.
Do you cook Kerala food?
Yes, everything. But at home I have a cook. With my training sessions, cooking becomes difficult.
Do you entertain a lot at home?
Only family and close friends. No big parties. We do small dinners and I supervise the cooking then.
Whats your favourite dish?
Dum Mutton Biryani. I know how to make it, too. Though it doesnt always come out right! Bobbys a good cook. He can turn his hand to anything. I like his food. Its better than mine.
You live in Bangalore which has some
fab restaurants...
Yes, but I dont eat out unless I am outside the country. In Bangalore, at the most, I may visit the Taj. But in Monte Carlos Grand Hotel, where I stay when I go for the end of the year Grand Prix finals, I like the food. Most of the time when I am travelling, I cook and eat Indian food. You can get everything abroad in supermarkets.
Do you drink at all?
Alcohol? Not at all.
Are you a sweets person?
Yes, but Im not much of a chocolate person. Ice-creams and cakes are fine. But no dessert every day for me.
Whats your training schedule like?
Its about six or seven hours a day. Jump drills, weight training, sprints. Im on a high-protein, medium carb and low fat diet. Lots of fish, little red meat. I take
supplements like protein shakes, amino acids, creatine, vitamins, nothing more than that. I like to keep my weight down to
61 or 62 kg during competition time. Otherwise its 65.
